I bought a new bottle of P50 recently and being rather busy and basically a beat behind everyone else, whilst I thought it odd that I didn't get any sting on application, last night I remembered the smell.
If you've ever used the original P50 you'll know what I'm talking about. It smells. I personally love it - others didn't.
Whatever - it no longer smells. Meaning the formulation has changed. Which is no doubt why I no longer sting on application.
Le Grand Sigh.
WHY do brands faff with greatness? I don't know why or when (but I suspect the EU as per usual had something to do with it - interfering bastards) but the son of the original founders the Alloche's is over here next week. And I'm away.
Le Grand Sigh.
So as I can't meet him this time I've asked the PR to give me the full spiel - which is no doubt more attractive to him than a 43 year old woman throwing herself around his ankles and screeching 'WHY???? WHY???'
Will keep you posted. *weeps gently*
P.S. - I know there are retailers that still sell the original in the US and abroad but I'm not linking to them until I know if the old version is available in the US (books flight) - or if they are simply selling excess OLD stock.

Definately keen to know on the old version/ old stock question-as I have only just bought from one of the sellers people were linking too....
ReplyDeleteThe other half is FREAKILY attached to the smell!
xx
The smell is my favourite thing about it! :)
DeleteI believe the new formula is Phenol free... It would be interesting to know the reasoning behind it if it's true!
ReplyDeleteBut on a different note, Caroline you rock!
Alex x
Thanks Alex - as I said - I think it was the EU. But we'l see! :)
DeleteIs it true that it should smell of onions? Thats what put me off buying it! What are the ingredients?
ReplyDeleteI really would love to 'smell it' but I cannot find it over here(uk) where oh where can I buy it??? Many thanks ;o)
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this out and give it a good ole smell , but where on earth do you buy this in the Uk?? Please let me know , many thanks ;o)
ReplyDeleteHI Caroline
ReplyDeleteDo you know if P50 is safe for pregnant/breastfeeding women? Thanks a lot!
I think I used it when I was pregnant but I would always ask them officially - hopefully they'll see this and answer :)
DeleteI am so glad you are running this one! Will this do the same job as the old one? Will I bother buying it or is there an alternative Caroline?
ReplyDeleteCaroline, do not get be started on EU flipping regulations as I am soon launching my skincare line, then when 2013 its more complex and we need to pay the product safety assessors again for compliance etc! I feel your pain, its is most likey EU regs and maybe a money saving thing too...Geeta x
ReplyDeletePerhaps that's why when I tried it (purchased some samples from efmedispa - well the samples were free but I paid £5 for Special Delivery) I had no results. From what I've read Phenol has been removed and the connoisseurs of this product think that is the magic ingredient and removing it has rendered the product far less effective. I too hate it when companies tamper with perfectly beautiful products in their "wisdom" :( Will await your findings with interest Caroline, give 'em hell! LOL!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely not as effective
DeleteOn reading through recent posts around and about your fabuolous blog,it is indeed the lack of Phenol that is cutting the results. There are a number of recommended US sites to purchase the pure version from so I will investigate and probably bite the bullet and purchase myself the all singing, all dancing, Phenol containing P50 :-) Thanks for highlighting this Caroline :-)
DeleteI also ordered from efmedispa & paid £5 twice for the delivery fair enough if the product is worth it. I first ordered the p50w because I thought my skin could be slightly sensitive. I never had any results so I then called them up & they suggested I order the p50 telling me the strongest was the p50v & I had to work my way up to that specific product as it would be far to strong for me! So the P50 was ordered again used the whole bottle - nothing changed & I never once felt the product working on my skin, I noticed no difference whatsoever. This weekend I was going to order the P50V thinking I will def see results with this one but in light of this post I will wait to see what the verdict is. It is not a cheap product but it's money I am willing to spend if it is worth it. I am really looking forward to hear, does this product still produce results. Many thanks:)
ReplyDeleteit's been a long time since I trained with them but I think the V is the weakest of the lot - the P50 is definitely the strongest. :) OR - WAS!
DeleteOh :(
ReplyDeleteshouldn't I purchase P50 from US ...
The smell! I thought it was just me! But, I HATE it. I can't use it. It smells like machine/motor oil to me. I've actually washed it off. This is the one question I've been meaning to ask during a clinic, but I keep missing it. If it smelled like onions, I would be able to tolerate it. Sigh. (I also HATE perfume. I'm just too sensitive to smell).
ReplyDeleteIn the US, I purchased this from Rescue Spa in Philadelphia (online): http://shoprescuespa.com/biologique-recherche-p50-original-1970.html
But now I think maybe I bought the wrong one. I should have bought the P50W?
They have more: http://shoprescuespa.com/shop-by-brand/biologique-recherche.html
Different product I know (sorry BM!) but my love for Jergens body lotion has died as they too have changed their formula and the range is no longer 96% natural. Why mess with perfection?!
ReplyDeleteIs there an alternaite to the P50?
ReplyDeleteMy husband hated the smell of the original P50, says it reminds him of an electric fire! It reminds me of my Nana 1st aid box and the bix tin of germolene she kept in there. I bought 2 bottles back in July (the newer formulation) and I still get the sting, infact it makes me jiggle my feel when I use it.

ReplyDeleteI bought my bottle of P50V end Sept from the London spa linked on here, the label is different to the photo above and also the smell to me is of vinegar. Vinegar is listed as the eighth ingredient. It doesn't sting on application. Expiry date is 04/2015 Lot no Y41421PF ..Hope this adds to the picture and looking forward to an update. xx
ReplyDeleteI buy my P50 from a spa in the US. They are still making P50 with Phenol to sell in the states but it is not available in the EU. My source assures me this is not old stock but that the original formulation is still in production, just not available here unfortunately. Its actually cheaper to buy it over there, with shipping included than it is at Medispa!
ReplyDeleteWhich spa do you buy it from the US??
Deletehttp://toskaspa.com - Email Toska directly, her customer service is amazing!
DeleteWww.toskaspa.com
DeleteThey have the original formula. Email first though.
I purchased P50 online from Rescue Spa in the US. (http://shoprescuespa.com) Phenol is listed in the ingredients list, and it smells like you would not believe, so I'm guessing it's the original formula. EXP date on the bottom says 03/15.
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline I have just received an email from br-uk.co.uk explaining why the P50 has been reformulated in Europe..i can copy it to you if you like. I tried last week to buy the Original from Rescue Rittenhouse Spa in the States and they emailed to say they didnt supply the UK! They passed me on to someone in Europe who then passed me on to the uk dept!!
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline,Today I got an email from BR uk explaining why the P50 has been reformulated for Europe market..I can forward it to you to add to your investigation? Last week I had tried to buy P50 original from US (RescueSpa Rittenburg) but they said they do not ship to UK?! I got passed onto a lady from BR in france, who then passed me onto Medispa, who in turn sent me the explanation..pillar to post all for a toner eh!!
ReplyDeleteDo you recommend any other products from this line? The Masque Vivant and Creme Durmopurifante are recommended for acne/oily skins and I was wondering if you had an opinion on those? I've only ever heard you speak of the P50.
ReplyDeleteWww.toskaspa.com
ReplyDeleteThey stock the original formula and ship worldwide. Learned about this company right here on this blog. Amazing customer service. Email them first for UK orders they have special rates. P50 Original 1970 cost me £45 includind p&p. I have also tried BR Mask Vivant and Creme Dermopurifiante which were sent to me as samples when I ordered my first P50. Loved how well they worked together I ordered them, too. Natasha
Just got my 4 bottles of P50 from www.toskaspa.com. They cost £45 each, shipping included.
ReplyDeleteHi Caroline, I am in the US and am able to purchase the original P50 from a spa near by. Perhaps we could arrange a trade? A UK only product for this one? If you are interested let me know! jenyjen77@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteOnly trained professionals are allowed to work and sell Biologique Recherche products. We've been lucky to find on this blog such a great contact to be able to get the P50 at a decent price and Toska is the expert who will gives yu an online consultation to make sure you're ordering the right P50 for your skin. She has a lot of fans on this blog, too and I can't believe that someone would even think of trying to arrange "trades". I would hate for www.toskaspa to stop doing us all a favour so again... I can't say enough good things for this company.
DeleteLouise Fuller
Hi Jennica!
DeleteThank you for the offer and if I don't hear back from BR - which I haven't so far - I may take you up on it. :)
And Louise while I appreciate your comment - Jennica was offering me a swap for a product I want and can use. It's in the nature of beauty blogging to 'trade' products unavailable in your home country.
And as for Toska Spa - I've had so many anonymous links to them recently that in all honesty I feel spammed. Especially when I know for a fact that BR prohibit online selling of their products.
Caroline,
DeleteA lot of your fans have recently contacted our spa with enquires following reviews on Biologique Recherche products on your blog. It was one of them that emailed us asking to clarify this situation. I have personally done my best to advice them in the right products for their skin type since BR products are quite complex we require an online consultation and a log in to the website. We are an authorized BR dealer and we are allowed to sell online but have to follow select company rules. A lot of other companies in the states do sell BR online but won't ship small orders overseas. We are fully commited to serving our clients therefore for the time being we are taking the time and effort to ship small orders such as P50.
Thank you.
Hi THspa,
DeleteThank you for taking the time to comment.
I do however, have a few queries for you.
*I know for a fact that EF Medispa are the official distributors for BR in the UK. I have never in all my years in the industry known for a brand to allow a retailer from another country to ship into an area with known official distribution. Are BR aware that you are shipping into the UK?
*The 70's formula is illegal in the EU. Are UK Customs aware you are shipping illegal goods into the UK?
*If you are buying in $ and selling to my (lovely) readers in £ - you are making a tidy profit - so you 'taking the time and effort' to ship small orders overseas sounds rather like you are doing US a favour - which we both know is not the case.
I wish you continued success.
Caroline
Hi Caroline,
ReplyDeleteI would love to know your thoughts on other products from BR. I am loving the P50 and when I ordered it a few weeks back I received a sample of BR VIP 02 cream. Loved it the three times I used it but will only repurchase after a nod from you. I suffer from sensitive combo oily skin with occasional dryness around the mouth. Also I experienced breakouts mostly around the jaw area during the first 10-15 days of using P50(the original version with Phenol) I love the smell. Its addictive!!
Is it normal to breakout with P50? Purging phase probably? Cause my skin is a lot better now, just that the acne has left scars. Will P50 help the scarring?
Thank you
Vidhi :)
Hi, Does anyone know if I should be rinsing off the P50W lotion after dabbing it on? (I have the UK version.)
ReplyDeleteThe bottle says i should rinse off, but then I feel that it barely has a chance to work!
Any advice would be appreciated!
Alex
God no. Use it like toner and move on to your next stage. :)
